Yes. You may keep any gold you personally recover during your guided session. Glacial gold deposits vary naturally and depend on creek conditions, technique, and the material you worked for the gold recovery. No minimum amount, specific outcome, or guaranteed results are promised.
No prior experience is required. These guided sessions are beginner‑friendly and hands‑on. I demonstrate the basic techniques and show you how to pan safely and effectively on‑site. Participants are responsible for practicing the skills shown during the experience.
Participants should bring sturdy outdoor footwear, drinking water, snacks, and weather‑appropriate clothing suitable for creek terrain, mud, rocks, and changing forest conditions. You may also bring your own basic hand‑panning tools if you prefer. I provide gold pans and essential hand tools for the guided session. No powered equipment, dredges, sluices, or mechanical devices are permitted.
Guided experiences are available in 2‑hour or 4‑hour sessions. Actual time on the creek may vary depending on creek conditions, terrain, and participant pace. Most 2‑hour sessions run close to the scheduled time, while 4‑hour sessions allow for extended panning, exploring, and instruction.
Guided experiences take place in Yellowwood Forest and surrounding areas depending on the option you choose:
No. HOOTERHILLS no longer operates as a campground. This is a guided outdoor experience only.
Yes, children are welcome to join but minors may participate only with a parent or legal guardian present and supervising them at all times. The supervising adult assumes full responsibility and liability for the minor’s safety, conduct, and participation during the experience.
Guided experiences take place outdoors in natural conditions. Light rain and normal weather changes are part of the adventure, and sessions typically continue. However, severe weather, unsafe creek levels, high winds, lightning, extreme heat or cold, or any conditions that may affect safety may require rescheduling at the guide’s discretion. Your safety always comes first.
Coverage is limited in Yellowwood Forest. Plan accordingly.

On‑site panning at HOOTERHILLS does not require a permit.
Each HOOTERHILLS PAYDIRT YELLOWWOOD GOLD bag contains natural creek gravels and black sands hand‑dug from the family land in Yellowwood Forest. This is unsalted, authentic Indiana glacial gold paydirt — nothing added, nothing removed. Gold amounts naturally vary, and every bag is different. Some bags may contain fine gold, flakes, or small pickers depending on the material pulled from the creek that day.
